Dangote Group urges Nigeria to boost production and cut imports
The Dangote Group has called on Nigeria to strengthen domestic production, reduce its dependence on imports, and expand exports to foster economic resilience and competitiveness. Speaking at the 21st Abuja International Trade Fair, Regional Director Hajia Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, represented by Group General Manager Abdullahi Dan-Musa, emphasized that economic stability relies on expanding productive capacity and reinforcing local supply chains.
Wali-Abdurrahman noted that businesses in Nigeria are currently facing challenges such as inflationary pressures, exchange-rate adjustments, evolving tax policies, and technological disruptions. She advocated for an investment environment that promotes industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable development.
The group highlighted its diverse investment portfolio, which includes cement, sugar, salt, seasoning, packaging, fertilizer, petrochemicals, and petroleum refining. Notably, Dangote Cement has transitioned Nigeria from a major cement importer to a significant producer and exporter. Additionally, the group is expanding its Pan-African industrial footprint, with construction underway for a refinery and petrochemicals project in Lamu, Kenya.
