Dangote Refinery launches Africa’s largest IPO to raise ₦2.15 trillion
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) that is expected to be the largest in Africa's history. The company plans to offer 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 per share, aiming to raise approximately ₦2.15 trillion (about $1.6 billion).
Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, described the initiative as ‘the IPO for the people,’ designed to allow retail investors, including ordinary citizens, to acquire ownership stakes. The minimum subscription is set at 10 shares, costing ₦5,250. The company aims to attract up to 10 million retail investors across the continent.
The proceeds from the offering are intended to fund the expansion of the refinery, which currently has a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day. The goal is to increase this capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day to meet domestic and international demand. The refinery is valued at approximately $47 billion to $50 billion. The subscription period is scheduled to run from September 14 to October 13, 2026, with a potential listing on the Nigerian Exchange in late November.
