Dangote Refinery Cuts Nigerian Fuel Prices and Targets $5 Billion IPO

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals announced a reduction in its ex‑depot fuel prices, lowering premium motor spirit (petrol) to N1,165 per litre (down N50) and automotive gas oil (diesel) to N1,570 per litre (down N80). The price cut is presented as a move to improve energy affordability and support economic activity across Nigeria.

The refinery is also preparing Africa’s largest ever stock‑market listing. It aims to raise about US$5 billion in an initial public offering slated for October, with a target valuation of roughly US$40 billion. The primary listing will be on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Proceeds are earmarked to expand the Lagos plant’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to about 1.4 million barrels per day and to explore a similar project in Kenya. Kenyan investors are expected to contribute up to US$500 million, representing roughly 10 % of the fundraising target.
