Dangote Refinery reports $4.7 billion profit and extends $1.6 billion IPO

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has reported a significant financial turnaround, posting a net profit of $4.73 billion for the first nine months of 2026. This marks a major shift from a $117.2 million loss during the same period in 2025. The refinery's revenue surged by 144 percent to $22.5 billion, driven by increased throughput and strong refining margins.

In tandem with these financial results, the company is conducting a massive initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising approximately $1.6 billion through the sale of 4.1 billion ordinary shares. Due to exceptionally high investor demand—reportedly three to four times the target amount—the subscription period has been extended from October 13 to October 27, 2026. To facilitate regional participation, Access Bank Botswana will act as the depository receipt issuer for the Southern African market, and the company is working to expand access to East African markets.

On the legal front, the refinery is appealing a Federal High Court judgment that directed regulators to continue issuing fuel import licenses to other marketers, a move the company and energy watchdogs argue threatens domestic refining capacity and energy security.
