Nigeria's Dangote Refinery Surpasses U.S. in Jet Fuel Shipments to Europe

In June, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery exported about 466,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel to Europe, valued at roughly N757 billion. This volume, equivalent to around 582.5 million litres, doubled the May shipment and overtook the United States, whose exports fell to 399,000 metric tonnes in the same month. The surge marked the highest monthly jet‑fuel export from Nigeria since the refinery became a net exporter in 2024 and positioned Nigeria as Europe’s leading supplier for June.

The increased supply contributed to an oversupplied European market, pushing Northwest Europe jet‑fuel prices down to $981.75 per tonne by the end of June, well below the March peak of $1,694.25. Analysts note that the market remains sensitive to geopolitical developments in the Middle East and the flow of supplies through the Suez Canal.

Domestically, the Dangote refinery has ended the chronic scarcity of Jet A1 fuel in Nigeria, though price pressure persists because the refinery still sources crude on the global market. Industry observers say the refinery’s output is reshaping Nigeria’s fuel landscape, reducing reliance on imports and supporting both export growth and local aviation operations.
