Dangote Refinery increases domestic petrol supply in Nigeria

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has significantly altered Nigeria’s fuel supply structure. According to data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), domestic petrol (Premium Motor Spirit) receipts rose to 35.9 million litres per day in August, up from 25.8 million litres in July. During the same period, petrol imports fell by 26 per cent, dropping from 19.7 million to 14.6 million litres per day.

Domestic supply accounted for approximately 71 per cent of total petrol receipts in August, exceeding imports by 21.3 million litres per day. This shift follows the commencement of operations at the 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery.

In the cooking gas market, the Dangote Refinery increased its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price from N980 to N1,030 per kilogram. This adjustment occurs amid significant retail price fluctuations across Nigeria, where costs for a 12.5kg cylinder refill varied between N15,000 and N18,750 depending on the location.
