Dangote Refinery launches $1.58 billion IPO in Nigeria

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals is launching a landmark initial public offering (IPO) in Nigeria, aiming to raise approximately $1.58 billion (N2.15 trillion) through the sale of 4.1 billion new shares. The offer is scheduled to open on September 14 and close on October 13, with trading expected to commence on the Nigerian Exchange in late November.

Aliko Dangote has expressed significant optimism regarding the stock's potential, suggesting that shares currently offered at N525 could eventually reach N10,000. Such a valuation would place the company near a $1 trillion market capitalization. To encourage mass participation, Dangote stated that priority allocations would be given to small retail investors rather than large institutional entities.

The refinery plans to use the funds to expand its refining capacity from 700,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, part of a broader $14.3 billion energy infrastructure investment program. The company reported a $1.82 billion profit for the first half of 2026, following a loss in 2025.
