Dangote Refinery raises Nigeria's PMS price to N1,215 per litre, resumes naira sales

On July 24, 2026, Dangote Refinery announced that it will sell Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in naira at a new gantry price of N1,215 per litre, up from N1,175 per litre. The change follows a pause in local‑currency sales that began on July 14, 2026, when the refinery temporarily sold refined products in dollars.

Marketers can now purchase PMS in naira, and the refinery says the higher price is intended to ease pressure on traders and consumers. Retail fuel prices in Abuja have been reported between N1,270 and N1,350 per litre.

Analysts note that pricing refined products in dollars previously increased volatility, linking fuel costs to the naira‑dollar exchange rate. The policy revives a dispute between Dangote and the state‑owned NNPC over whether crude supplies and downstream sales can be transacted in naira.
