Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased its petrol gantry price by N85, raising the wholesale cost from N1,265 to N1,350 per litre. This represents a 6.7 per cent increase and marks the fourth price adjustment by the refinery since late August.

Following this wholesale hike, retail petrol prices have surged across major Nigerian cities. In Abuja, pump prices are reported between N1,400 and N1,450 per litre, while stations in Lagos are dispensing fuel at rates between N1,400 and N1,430 per litre.

The price surge is driven by rising international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading above $100 per barrel, amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Economists warn that these increases will likely exacerbate inflation by driving up transportation and production costs for essential goods and food. The rising costs have caused widespread concern among Nigerian households regarding the cost of living and economic stability.
