Dangote Petroleum Refinery raises petrol gantry price to N1,350 per litre
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased its petrol (Premium Motor Spirit) gantry price by N85, raising the wholesale cost from N1,265 to N1,350 per litre. This adjustment, effective September 12, 2026, marks the fourth price review by the refinery since August 21.
Retail petrol prices across Nigeria have surged in response to the refinery's hike and rising international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading above $100 per barrel. In Abuja, pump prices have reached between N1,400 and N1,450 per litre. In Kaduna and Benue, black-market outlets have reported prices as high as N1,500 per litre.
Economists and business groups have expressed concern over the economic impact. Dr. Aliyu Ilias warned that the increase could drive inflation by raising transportation and production costs for essential goods. Meanwhile, the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) noted that rising fuel costs are weakening the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
