Thiago Tirante reaches Cincinnati Masters 1000 quarterfinals

Argentine tennis player Thiago Agustin Tirante has achieved a career-defining run at the Cincinnati Open Masters 1000. Tirante secured a major upset by defeating third seed Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round. Djokovic noted that he has been managing an underlying health condition that is exacerbated by heat and humidity.

Following his victory over Djokovic, Tirante defeated Spain’s Martín Landaluce in straight sets, 7-6(5), 7-6(4), to advance to the round of 16. He continued his momentum by overcoming Czech player Jakub Mensik 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, marking the first time in his career that he has reached the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 tournament. Tirante is now positioned to face either Alex de Miñaur or Arthur Fils.

In other tournament news, 19-year-old Spanish player Rafa Jódar reached the round of 16 after defeating Alejandro Tabilo. Meanwhile, Argentine Juan Manuel Cerúndolo was eliminated in the third round by Felix Auger-Aliassime.
