Daniel Alexandrov runs for Bulgarian Wrestling Federation President

Daniel Alexandrov, a former national classical wrestler and former Member of Parliament, has announced his candidacy for President of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation. Alexandrov stated his decision was driven by a desire to bring unity, transparency, and stability to the sport, focusing on the needs of athletes, coaches, and clubs.

His candidacy follows significant administrative tension within the federation. The Sofia Appellate Court has issued a final ruling to convene an extraordinary General Assembly on October 17, 2026. This assembly, prompted by dissatisfied clubs, will address the removal of the current Executive Board and President, the election of a new leader, and the adoption of a new statute.

Alexandrov’s bid also follows a period of legal scrutiny. In 2025, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against him regarding allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor. While the proceedings were previously delayed due to parliamentary immunity, the case was later returned to the prosecution by the Sofia Appellate Court due to insufficient specifics in the original indictment.
