Daniel Allain elected leader of New Brunswick Progressive Conservatives

Daniel Allain has been elected as the new leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick. In a two-person race held in Fredericton, Allain, a former provincial cabinet minister, secured a majority of the ballots, defeating opposition finance critic Don Monahan.

Following his victory, Allain pledged to build a “broad and welcoming” coalition that includes diverse demographics, including various linguistic, geographic, and social groups. He emphasized the need for the party to move past internal differences to provide an alternative to the province’s Liberal government led by Premier Susan Holt.

The leadership race follows the departure of former premier Blaine Higgs after the party's defeat in the 2024 election. Analysts noted the contest represented a choice between different party visions, with Monahan aligned with the more socially conservative wing and Allain viewed as a moderate figure.
