Daniel Altmaier defeats Holger Rune at Shanghai Masters
Daniel Altmaier secured a comeback victory against Holger Rune in the opening round of the Rolex Shanghai Masters. After losing the first set 1-6, the German player rallied to win 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in a match lasting approximately two hours and 15 minutes.
Altmaier managed to break Rune in the ninth game of the deciding set to take the lead. Following the win, Altmaier is scheduled to face world No. 4 and No. 3 seed Ben Shelton in the second round. This follows a previous meeting earlier this year in Hamburg where Altmaier also emerged victorious.
Other notable results from the tournament include Yannick Hanfmann advancing after a three-hour marathon against Kamil Majchrzak, and Matteo Berrettini winning a three-set match against Aleksander Kovacevic. Chinese wild-card entries Yibing Wu and Yi Zhou also secured victories in their respective opening matches.
