Daniel Barenboim cancels Dortmund performance due to health

Renowned conductor Daniel Barenboim has canceled a scheduled performance in Dortmund due to health reasons. Following a rehearsal earlier in the day, the 83-year-old conductor suffered a post-viral episode of weakness.

Barenboim, who publicly disclosed his Parkinson's disease last year, was set to lead the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, an ensemble he co-founded over 25 years ago to foster cultural dialogue between Israeli and Arab musicians. Karl-Heinz Steffens, chief conductor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, stepped in to conduct the performance in his stead.

The Konzerthaus Dortmund confirmed the cancellation and extended well wishes for Barenboim's recovery.
