Daniel Barenboim conducts West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in El Escorial

Daniel Barenboim conducted the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra at the Teatro Auditorio in San Lorenzo de El Escorial to close the International Festival of Performing Arts. The orchestra, which Barenboim founded in 1999 to bring together Palestinian, Israeli, and Arab musicians, performed works by Wagner, Schubert, and Schumann.

Despite his physical decline due to a neurological condition related to Parkinson's disease, the 83-year-old conductor led the performance, which included a rendition of the Prelude and Liebestod from Tristán und Isolde.
