Daniel Chapo calls for university-led digital transformation in Mozambique

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has called on universities to lead the nation's digital transformation and drive economic independence. Speaking at a graduation ceremony for Universidade Lúrio (UniLúrio) in the Sanga district of Niassa province, Chapo emphasized that higher education institutions must move beyond merely explaining national issues to becoming “problem solvers.”

The President urged academic institutions to utilize artificial intelligence and digital solutions to improve sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, public management, and infrastructure. He specifically highlighted the need for engineers to address energy and infrastructure challenges, as well as agronomists to increase agricultural productivity and reduce food dependency.

During the ceremony, which celebrated the graduation of 81 students from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Chapo stressed the importance of connecting universities with local communities and the productive sector. He stated that knowledge must be applied directly to fields, hospitals, schools, and businesses to foster sustainable development and national prosperity.
