Daniel Chapo pledges to intensify anti-terrorism and military modernization
Mozambican President and Frelimo leader Daniel Chapo has pledged to intensify the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado. Speaking at a Frelimo Central Committee session in Chimoio, Chapo stated that the government will continue to confront terrorist threats “frontally and determinedly, harshly, and without complacency.” He emphasized that increasing investment in the capacity of Defense and Security Forces and Local Forces is essential to maintaining the peace necessary for economic and social reconstruction in affected areas.
In a separate address in Nacala, Chapo advocated for the modernization of the Mozambique Defense Armed Forces (FADM) to address increasingly complex security threats. He noted that military preparation must evolve to include advanced technologies such as drones, surveillance systems, artificial intelligence, and secure communications. Chapo stressed that modernization involves not only acquiring equipment but also ensuring personnel are trained to operate these systems effectively. He highlighted that the experience gained from combating terrorism in Cabo Delgado should be utilized to strengthen national defense capabilities.
