Daniel Cormier explains why McGregor-Nurmagomedov rivalry remains irreconcilable
Daniel Cormier has provided insight into why the rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor remains irreconcilable compared to his own professional feud with Jon Jones. Speaking in a recent interview, Cormier noted that while his rivalry with Jones was intense, it remained within professional bounds, eventually allowing for a workable dynamic.
In contrast, Cormier stated that McGregor crossed personal lines by targeting religion, faith, and family. He explained that because of the deep commitment Nurmagomedov and his team have to these values, McGregor’s actions made reconciliation impossible. Cormier remarked that Nurmagomedov and his associates would not be able to move past such insults in the way Americans might.
Additionally, fighter Ian Machado Garry defended Nurmagomedov’s legacy following criticisms from McGregor regarding his early retirement. Garry emphasized that Nurmagomedov’s decision to step away from the sport for personal reasons does not diminish his undefeated record or his status as a UFC world champion.
