Daniel González resigns as Argentina's Energy and Mining Secretary
Daniel González has resigned from his position as the Coordinating Secretary of Energy and Mining in Javier Milei's administration. While González cited personal reasons for his departure, sources close to the official suggest internal friction within the administration.
González, a former CEO of YPF and investment banker, played a critical role in overseeing the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI). This program is a central pillar of Milei's economic strategy, designed to attract massive foreign capital through 30-year tax, exchange, and customs benefits.
The resignation comes at a sensitive time for the energy sector, as the RIGI is currently processing investment requests totaling tens of billions of dollars, including approximately $70 billion earmarked for oil drilling in the Vaca Muerta formation. Analysts have expressed concern that the loss of a key official familiar with corporate interests could delay the processing of complex investment files.
