Daniel Jadue denied travel to Brazil by Chilean judge

A Chilean judge has denied a request by former Recoleta Mayor Daniel Jadue to travel to São Paulo, Brazil, between October 20 and 24. Jadue sought to accompany his Brazilian wife during a medical procedure.

Lilian Sáez, of the Third Guarantee Court of Santiago, rejected the petition citing a “danger of flight.” The judge noted that the oral trial preparation for the Achifarp (Chilean Association of Municipalities with Popular Pharmacies) case is scheduled for October 29. The court determined that allowing Jadue to leave the country at this stage poses a significant risk, especially considering the potential prison sentences sought by the prosecution, which total approximately 18 years.

The judge also noted that there were alternatives for Jadue’s wife to receive medical care without his departure from Chile. Jadue remains under precautionary measures, including nighttime house arrest and a travel ban, due to charges of repeated fraud against the treasury, embezzlement, and bribery.
