Daniel Kinahan loses Dubai appeal, set for extradition to Ireland

Daniel Kinahan, a senior figure in the Kinahan organised crime group, has lost his final appeal against an extradition order in the United Arab Emirates. Irish authorities are preparing to bring him back to face a trial before the Special Criminal Court on a charge of directing the activities of a criminal gang.

The extradition follows a 2024 bilateral treaty between Ireland and the UAE. Plans are under way for a secure transfer involving An Garda Síochána, the Defence Forces and the Irish Prison Service, with the possibility of using a government aircraft. Upon arrival, Kinahan is expected to be detained in Portlaoise Prison pending his court proceedings. No exact timeline has been set, but officials anticipate his return within the next six weeks.
