Daniel Matos debuts new dance work at Teatro Municipal da Covilhã

The new season at the Teatro Municipal da Covilhã (TMC) begins on Saturday, September 12, at 21:30 with the dance performance “A Luminosa Violência da Perfeição”. Created by Portuguese choreographer, performer, and visual artist Daniel Matos, the piece is inspired by Maurice Ravel’s “Pavane for a Dead Princess” and features music by Joana Guerra.

The production is a co-production between TMC, Teatro das Figuras, Cine-Teatro de Torres Vedras, and the Municipality of Lagos. The performance features six dancers and a basketball team composed of children, creating a choreographic procession that explores themes of melancholy and the transition from youth.

Five local children from Covilhã, aged between 8 and 10 and students at the Conservatory, will join the cast. Matos describes the work as a multidisciplinary exploration of the body as a biographical field, using time and movement to reflect on the absence of pauses and the nature of existence.
