Daniel Medvedev advances with walkover as Tomas Machac withdraws from Italian Open

Czech player Tomas Machac pulled out of the Italian Open in Rome on May 9 due to illness, withdrawing from his second‑round match against Russian Daniel Medvedev. The ATP announced that Medvedev, a former world No. 1, received a walkover into the third round, where he will face the winner of the match between France's Corentin Moutet and Spain's Pablo Llamas Ruiz.

The late withdrawal prompted schedule adjustments, including relocating the Andrej Rublev vs. Miomir Kecmanović match to the centre court and shifting the Moutet‑Llamas match to the Supertennis arena. Medvedev, who won the Rome title in 2023, now looks to navigate a draw that also features Jannik Mertens, Arthur Fils and Ben Shelton.
