Daniel Mérida advances to third round of Montreal Masters 1000

Spanish world No. 63 Daniel Mérida won his opening match at the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal, defeating Canadian Liam Draxl 3‑6, 6‑4, 6‑4. He saved 12 break points while limiting Draxl to two. In the second round Mérida faced French No. 28 Ugo Humbert and secured a straight‑sets victory, 6‑3, 6‑3, in 1 hour 32 minutes, breaking Humbert’s serve four times. The win moves Mérida into the tournament’s third round, where he will meet American qualifier Alex Michelsen. The result matches Mérida’s best performance at a Masters 1000, previously achieved in Madrid, and makes him one of only two Spaniards still competing in the event.
