Daniel Munduruku discusses indigenous literature in Fuvest

Indigenous writer and activist Daniel Munduruku has commented on the upcoming changes to the Fuvest entrance exam, which selects students for the University of São Paulo (USP). For the first time in its 50-year history, the exam will include mandatory readings by indigenous authors.

Starting in 2030, the anthology "Originárias: uma antologia feminina de literatura indígena" will be included, followed by Munduruku's novel "Fantasmas" in 2032. Munduruku, who holds a doctorate in Education from USP, noted that while the university is renewing itself, the broader educational system often progresses slowly.

He highlighted the importance of Law 11.645 in introducing indigenous history and culture to schools to combat stereotypes. However, he expressed that challenges remain due to teacher training and the influence of hegemonic, often prejudiced, historical discourses.
