Daniel Noboa releases asset declarations after transparency restrictions

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has faced scrutiny regarding the transparency of his financial assets. Access to his patrimonial declarations on the Comptroller General of the State website was recently restricted. The restriction cited the Organic Law on Personal Data Protection, noting that access was limited due to a request from a subsystem of the National Intelligence System.

In response to the unavailability of these documents on the official Comptroller portal, the Presidency's General Secretariat of Communication released the two most recent declarations directly. According to the latest filing dated August 31, 2026, Noboa’s assets total $3,551,110.26, with a monthly salary of $5,072. The Presidency clarified that his family wealth, related to his father Álvaro Noboa, is distinct from his personal assets.

Critics argue that the use of data protection laws to restrict access conflicts with constitutional mandates requiring public officials to present sworn asset declarations to prevent illicit enrichment.
