Daniel Obajtek under investigation for salt mine incident

The District Prosecutor's Office in Bydgoszcz has launched an official investigation into the actions of Daniel Obajtek, a Member of the European Parliament and former CEO of Orlen. The investigation follows a July 9, 2026, incident at the IKS Solino salt mine in Inowrocław.

During a hunger strike by mine workers protesting a preliminary sale agreement with the German company K+, Obajtek attempted to enter the protected facility, citing his parliamentary immunity and status as an MEP. The attempt led to a physical altercation with the company's president, Wojciech Kotlarek, who attempted to block his entry.

The investigation, initiated following a notification by politician Krzysztof Brejza, will examine potential violations of the penal code, including trespassing and violation of bodily integrity.
