Daniel Osi Orbih: Nigerian political leaders mourn PDP chieftain

Political leaders across Nigeria are mourning the death of Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University. Orbih passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the age of 64.

Victor Giadom, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman for the South-South, described the late politician as a “bridge-builder” and a brother. Giadom highlighted Orbih’s involvement in the “Rainbow Coalition,” a cross-party movement associated with Nyesom Wike, noting his work to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election efforts.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Governor of Edo State, also paid tribute, describing the loss as deeply personal and noting a friendship that spanned over four decades despite their political differences. Orbih was recognized for his commitment to public service and his various traditional titles within Edo State.
