Dan Orbih, prominent PDP chieftain, dies at 64

Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has died at the age of 64. His passing was announced by his family, who confirmed he died on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Orbih was a significant figure in Edo State politics, serving as the PDP State Chairman for approximately 11 years from 2009 to 2020. He also held the position of PDP National Vice Chairman for the South-South zone. Most recently, he served as the Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, following an appointment by Governor Monday Okpebholo in 2024.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a close political ally, expressed deep grief, describing Orbih as a “committed political ally” and a “friend indeed.” Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and former Governor Godwin Obaseki also issued condolences, noting his lasting impact on the state's political landscape. Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence, two daughters, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih, and other extended family members.
