Daniel Osvaldo recovers in intensive care after lung infection

Former professional footballer Daniel Osvaldo is recovering in intensive care at Llavallol Hospital in Argentina following a life-threatening lung infection. Medical professionals identified an untreated dental cavity as the source of the infection, which spread to his respiratory tract and right lung.

Osvaldo, who previously played for Italian clubs such as Roma, Juventus, and Inter Milan, underwent surgery to extract the infected tooth and address a pleural effusion. Doctors noted that his history as a high-level athlete and significant muscle mass may have helped his body resist the severity of the illness, which was compounded by a weakened immune system.

While remaining under close medical observation and receiving intravenous medication, Osvaldo has shown signs of improvement. He has publicly stated that the experience has prompted him to quit smoking, noting, “I haven't smoked for two weeks and I don't intend to ever do it again.” His transfer to a regular ward depends on his clinical stability in the coming days.
