Daniel Richman subpoenaed in renewed James Comey leak probe
A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia has issued a subpoena to Daniel Richman, a longtime advisor and friend of former FBI Director James Comey. The subpoena is part of a renewed Department of Justice investigation into whether Comey improperly shared sensitive government information with the media.
The probe focuses on memos written by Comey regarding his meetings with former President Donald Trump, which were shared with a New York Times reporter following Comey's dismissal in 2017. While a 2019 Inspector General report concluded that Comey leaked sensitive records and violated DOJ rules, prosecutors previously declined to bring charges during the first Trump administration.
This investigation marks the Justice Department's third attempt to pursue legal action against Comey. He is currently facing separate charges related to a social media post, while a previous case involving alleged false statements to Congress was dismissed by a judge.
