Daniel Santos names rancher Vinícius Borba as Pará Environment Secretary
Daniel Santos, the governor-elect of Pará, has announced the appointment of lawyer and rancher Vinícius Borba as the state's future Secretary of Environment. The announcement took place in Altamira, a municipality noted for high historical deforestation rates.
Santos emphasized a platform of “legal security to produce,” aiming to integrate land and environmental regularization to facilitate credit and insurance access for rural producers. During his speech, he stated that environmental responsibility should not mean “massacring, killing, and destroying those who produce in this state.”
Borba has been tasked with addressing the impact of “Operação Curupira,” an integrated law enforcement and environmental agency initiative established in 2023 to combat record deforestation. The operation has resulted in over R$ 5 million in environmental crime fines in Pará.
