Daniel Scioli foils clown‑mask robbery at Villa La Ñata, ex‑custodian Braian Orona arrested
In the early hours of Wednesday (about 3 a.m.), four armed men wearing clown‑style masks attempted to rob the Villa La Ñata residence of Daniel Scioli, Argentina’s secretary of Tourism, Environment and Sports. The attackers used knowledge of a hidden button near the mailbox—information supplied by Braian Orona, a former Bonaerense police officer who served as Scioli’s personal custodian until 2015—to open the main gate and enter the property.
Security guards stationed in a bunker inside the estate warned the intruders to stop. One suspect drew a 9 mm pistol at the guards. After a second warning, the gang retreated without reaching the main house; Scioli, who was inside sleeping, was unharmed.
Fiscal Cosme Iribarren of the UFI Benavídez reviewed security footage and, within 16‑24 hours, identified and detained two suspects: Orona, identified as the leader, and the vehicle owner used in the raid. The other two members remain at large. All detained suspects face charges of attempted double‑aggravated robbery with a firearm, in a populated area and as part of a band.
