Daniel Theis joins Maccabi Tel Aviv on two‑year deal

German World and European champion Daniel Theis has signed a two‑year contract with Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv after his move to ASVEL Villeurbanne fell through because of the French team's budget shortfall. Maccabi chairman Shimon Mizrahi called Theis “a very important player for us,” and coach Oded Katash praised his experience and winning pedigree. The club, which finished 12th last season, may have to host home games at a neutral venue because of the political situation in Israel.

Theis, 34, previously spent eight seasons in the NBA and most recently played for AS Monaco, appearing in 38 EuroLeague games with averages of 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds. Maccabi’s roster for the 2026‑27 EuroLeague campaign is further bolstered by the signings of American forward Armando Bacot and guard Keaton Wallace, both on two‑year contracts.
