Daniel Thomas under investigation after slashing migrant dinghy in English Channel
Far-right activist Daniel Thomas, known as “Danny Tommo,” has sparked widespread condemnation after livestreaming himself slashing an inflatable dinghy with a knife in the English Channel. The incident occurred while a rescue worker was still on board the vessel. The dinghy was being used by approximately 60 asylum seekers who had spent over 33 hours at sea in precarious conditions before being transferred to a Border Force vessel by the RNLI.
Hampshire Police are investigating the incident, and six people have been arrested in connection with a separate anti-migrant protest in Gosport involving charges such as assaulting an emergency worker and aggravated trespass.
Separately, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has ordered an urgent review by the Border Security Command following two instances where migrant boats reached the Kent coast undetected within a two-day period. One landing at Samphire Hoe, Dover, resulted in the detention of 21 individuals. Meanwhile, French authorities reported the discovery of a man, believed to be of African origin, dead on a beach in northern France, an incident being investigated to determine if it is linked to a Channel crossing attempt.
