Daniel Torres injured by fan projectile during Santa Fe vs Medellín match
Daniel Torres, a midfielder for Independiente Santa Fe, was struck by a projectile thrown by a fan during a match against Independiente Medellín at the Ditaires stadium in Itagüí. The incident occurred on October 5 during the 13th round of the Liga BetPlay as Torres was being substituted in the 76th minute.
Torres, who previously played for Medellín, was applauding the local supporters as a gesture of gratitude for his past time with the club. However, the gesture was met with insults from some spectators, and an object—described as a coin—struck him in the nose, causing a cut and bleeding. Medical staff had to attend to the player on the pitch, briefly halting the match.
Following the incident, Torres stated he was feeling well but admitted he may have been “a bit naive” to applaud while the home team was losing. He clarified that his intention was to show affection for the city and the institution, noting that the strike was likely from a single individual and did not change his overall view of the fanbase.
