Daniel Vorcaro corruption allegations spark investigation and denials

Former banker Daniel Vorcaro, associated with Banco Master, is at the center of a political controversy following reports by Veja magazine. The reports allege that Vorcaro negotiated a R$30 million cash payment to the Lula Institute to fund an Oliver Stone documentary about President Lula, in exchange for facilitating business with federal pension funds. The alleged scheme potentially involved bribes totaling R$1 billion to secure R$9 billion in business.

However, the Federal Police (PF) and the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) have officially denied these claims. Both institutions stated that Vorcaro did not provide a testimony or any documents to support the narrative of a R$30 million payment. Furthermore, the authorities rejected Vorcaro's previous plea deal proposals, citing a lack of legal requirements and sufficient evidence.

Vorcaro's defense has repudiated the authenticity and integrity of the leaked audio and documents, stating they do not recognize the source or content. Meanwhile, Central Bank President Gabriel Galípolo testified that there were unjustified delays in the supervision of Banco Master, suggesting potential interference by certain officials. Additionally, the Federal Police identified and blocked a cyberattack aimed at deleting data from Vorcaro's digital accounts during his detention.
