Daniela Dimovska assumes presidency of Skopje Criminal Court

Daniela Dimovska has officially assumed her role as the President of the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje after serving as acting president for 14 months. Following her solemn declaration before the Judicial Council, Dimovska outlined her priorities, which include maintaining judicial efficiency, increasing transparency, and reducing the backlog of old cases.

Dimovska reported significant progress during her interim period, noting that the court managed to reduce the number of old cases by 53 percent and successfully avoided any statute of limitations expirations this year. Despite operating with 130 fewer employees than in previous years, the court has worked to reduce the influx of cases by approximately 4,000.

Addressing public trust and the relationship between the judiciary and the prosecution, Dimovska emphasized that the court’s role is to impartially evaluate evidence rather than assume the responsibilities of the prosecutor. Her future agenda also includes the full anonymization of court decisions and the launch of a new court website to enhance transparency.
