Daniele Bellisari dies in Ostia construction accident

A 46-year-old worker, Daniele Bellisari, died following a construction accident in Ostia on Monday, September 14, 2026. The incident occurred at a construction site on via Antonio Forni during external finishing work on a building. A lifting basket attached to a crane, which Bellisari and a colleague were using, suddenly failed. While the 49-year-old colleague survived with minor injuries, Bellisari could not be saved.

Bellisari, a resident of Cisterna di Latina who worked for a local metal structure company, has prompted widespread mourning. Valentino Mantini, the Mayor of Cisterna, expressed condolences, describing the loss of life at a workplace as a tragedy that deeply affects the entire community.

In response to the accident, labor unions including Uil Lazio, Feneal Uil, and Anmil have raised concerns regarding construction site safety. They highlighted that the Lazio region recorded over 27,500 reported injuries and 50 fatalities in the first seven months of 2026. The unions are calling for stricter regulations regarding subcontracting and the establishment of a special prosecutor's office dedicated to workplace safety.
