Daniella Nordhagen awarded Jenteprisen for girls' rights activism
Daniella Nordhagen has been awarded the Jenteprisen (The Girl Prize) for her activism against honor-based violence and forced marriage. The award, presented by Plan International Norge on International Day of the Girl, recognizes individuals or organizations making extraordinary efforts for girls' rights and gender equality.
Nordhagen, who moved to Norway from Iraq as a child, shared her personal experience of being forced into marriage with her cousin at age 13. She has since used her story to advocate for change through lectures and her book, ‘1178 netter’.
Nordhagen was selected from 68 nominees, which included prominent figures such as Queen Sonja and football president Lise Klaveness. Jury leader Isabelle Ringnes noted that Nordhagen has turned her personal experience into a tool for social change.
