Anthony Garotinho launches Rio de Janeiro campaign with new vice candidate
Anthony Garotinho, the Republican candidate for Governor of Rio de Janeiro, has officially launched his electoral campaign with a rally in Belford Roxo. The campaign start follows a recent judicial determination regarding his political rights due to an administrative improbity conviction.
The campaign has faced immediate changes in its ticket composition. Major Elaine Gonçalves, who was initially announced as Garotinho’s vice-gubernatorial candidate, announced her withdrawal from the race, citing personal reasons and stating her intention to return to her duties in the Military Police.
Following Gonçalves' departure, former BOPE sub-lieutenant André Monteiro was selected as the new vice-gubernatorial candidate. Monteiro, a retired military police officer with a background in public security, joins the ticket to replace Gonçalves just as the official campaign period begins.
