Danielle Fishel discusses frustrations with ‘Girl Meets World’ production

Actress Danielle Fishel expressed frustration regarding the production of the Disney Channel series ‘Girl Meets World,’ noting that the show struggled to establish its own identity apart from its predecessor, ‘Boy Meets World.’

Speaking on her podcast, ‘Pod Meets World,’ Fishel stated that she and creator Michael Jacobs had originally intended for the sequel to function as a standalone series rather than a reboot. She recalled feeling frustrated when showrunners and directors began ‘shoehorning’ elements from the original series into the new production, sometimes playing clips of the old show to help new cast members understand references.

Rider Strong, who played Shawn Hunter, shared similar sentiments, noting a disconnect when asked to recreate specific moments from the original series that he did not clearly remember.
