Danish authorities launch guidance for talking to children about crises

The Danish Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with Børns Vilkår, Save the Children Denmark, and the Red Cross, has released seven pieces of advice to help adults communicate with children about crises and concerns.

The initiative aims to support parents, teachers, and educators in navigating difficult conversations regarding war, natural disasters, accidents, and the climate crisis. Officials noted that children and young people are increasingly exposed to distressing images and stories through social media and school environments, which can impact their well-being and sense of security.

Minister for Emergency Management Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen emphasized that all children deserve safety and well-being, stating that these concrete tips are intended to facilitate meaningful dialogue during turbulent times. Experts highlighted that while children cannot be completely shielded from global events, adult guidance is essential to help them process information and prevent growing uncertainty.
