Danish boxers achieve world titles amid lack of media coverage

Danish boxers Dina Thorslund and Melissa Mortensen have achieved significant international success, but their victories have faced a lack of domestic media coverage. Thorslund recently became an undisputed world champion by securing all four major belts—WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO—following a victory over Cherneka Johnson. For this performance, Thorslund received a 65,000 DKK performance bonus.

Melissa Mortensen, aged 24, also secured a WBA bantamweight title. Despite these major achievements, neither fight was broadcast on major Danish networks such as DR or TV 2. Bo Bøgeskov, chairman of the Danish Boxing Union, expressed disappointment, noting that such achievements serve as inspiration for young people and that the lack of recognition from television and press is regrettable.

TV 2 sports director Frederik Lauesen acknowledged the criticism, noting that boxing rights can be expensive relative to viewer interest, though he did not rule out future coverage of Danish matches.
