Danish Crown to send 500,000 pigs annually to Poland

Danish meat processing giant Danish Crown has announced plans to send approximately 500,000 pigs per year to Poland for processing. The company intends to double this volume over several years.

The move follows the closure of the Ringsted slaughterhouse in 2024 and the upcoming closure of the Aalborg facility by 2028, which currently employs about 140 people. Production will be shifted to the Polish slaughterhouse Sokolow, which boasts a processing rate of over 70 percent.

Przemek Gostkiewicz, director of Sokolow, stated that the move utilizes the facility's expertise and capacity, allowing the company to focus more on processing and sales rather than purchasing external raw materials. This strategy aims to increase the value of the pigs provided by Danish cooperative owners.
