Danish Crown to slaughter one million pigs in Poland
Danish meat processing giant Danish Crown has announced plans to slaughter one million Danish pigs in Poland within the next year. CEO Niels Ulrich Duedahl stated that approximately 300,000 pigs will be slaughtered in Poland initially, with the figure expected to reach 500,000 within six months and one million within a year.
The company aims to increase its processing rate at Polish slaughterhouses from 25 percent to 50 percent by the end of 2030. Duedahl noted that the company maintains a strong business presence in Poland, utilizing existing factories, brands, and customer bases to process Danish pigs within the Polish business system.
These developments follow political debates regarding the potential relocation of Danish agricultural production. While some industry representatives and politicians have argued that reducing domestic production would simply shift emissions and production to countries like Poland, Danish Crown is actively expanding its processing operations in the Polish market.
