Danish farmer faces backlash over pig welfare expansion project
Farmer and municipal council member Brian Kofoed has received environmental permission to construct 3,000 square meters of new stables at St. Muregård in Klemensker. Despite the expansion, the project is intended to downscale the total number of animals rather than increase them.
Kofoed plans to use the new facilities to provide existing pigs with more space, improved living conditions, and modern, environmentally friendly technology to replace old, worn-out stables. However, the initiative has triggered significant criticism and skepticism on social media.
The situation highlights a perceived paradox in public demand for higher animal welfare and better environmental standards, as the physical infrastructure required to implement these improvements often faces local opposition.
