Danish grocery chains engage in intense price competition

Major grocery retailers in Denmark, including Lidl, Netto, REMA 1000, and 365discount, are engaged in a significant price war to attract budget-conscious consumers. Recent price comparisons highlight intense competition over staple goods, particularly minced meat.

According to a review by B.T., Netto currently offers the lowest price for 400 grams of minced beef at 35 DKK. Lidl follows in second place, while REMA 1000 and 365discount share third place. For consumers seeking even lower costs, Bilka offers a mixed pork and veal product at a significantly lower price per kilogram, though it requires a larger bulk purchase.

A broader study by the price service Madprisluppen, which tracked a basket of approximately 100 common items across 12 chains over six months, identifies Lidl as the cheapest overall option for October. However, the margin between Lidl and REMA 1000 has narrowed significantly to just 13 DKK for a full basket of goods, down from a 28 DKK difference the previous month.
