Danish municipalities initiate school route safety improvements
In Stenløse, a new citizen proposal has gained momentum to address safety concerns for young cyclists. The proposal, which has already secured over 100 supporters, calls on Egedal Municipality to establish physically separated, two-way cycle paths and improve a T-junction at Degnebakken and Præstegårdsvej. Proponents describe the current situation as “often directly dangerous” for children in grades 0 to 3 due to heavy traffic and a lack of separation between cyclists and cars.
In Kolding, the municipality has announced the commencement of construction on Skolebakken in Nr. Bjert to improve safety for students. Starting in week 43, the project will install cycle paths and new sidewalks on the stretch from Strædet to Nr. Bjertvej. The project also includes widening the roadway and integrating new district heating pipes laid by EWII Varme. Construction is expected to be completed by April 2027, with temporary traffic diversions and one-way restrictions in place during the works.
