Danish municipalities propose budget cuts in Næstved and Aarhus

Næstved Kommune has proposed budget cuts totaling 64 million DKK to balance its finances for 2027. This revised figure is lower than the initial estimate of 78 million DKK, which was based on more cautious projections. The proposals are currently out for consultation with the MED system, municipal councils, and various boards. Municipal Director Henrik Harder noted that while some proposals may be difficult, the measures are necessary to meet budgetary requirements. The City Council is expected to adopt the budget on October 6.

In Aarhus, Mayor Anders Winnerskjold has proposed an annual 1 percent budget reduction across all magistrate areas to cover rising costs in the social sector. The proposal has faced criticism from Thomas Medom, the Alderman for Children and Youth, who pointed out that the school sector had previously been promised increased support, including more teachers for younger classes.
